WORK BEING DONE FOR
THE PROMOTION OF THE CAUSE.
“An Evening with Bishop
Fulton J. Sheen”
The evening of Saturday, February 28, 2004 drew 200 Central
Texans for a Gala Celebration highlighting the evangelization of culture.
The inspiration for the occasion was the great American evangelist, Archbishop
Fulton J. Sheen, whose story was presented by Father Andrew Apostoli, C.F.R.,
Vice-Postulator of Archbishop Sheen’s Cause for canonization.
“An Evening with Bishop Fulton J. Sheen” was
celebrated in honor of the Eighth Anniversary of Nazareth House, a
Center for Catholic Evangelization and Spiritual Development in Temple,
Texas. Held at the Stasburger Hall of the Cultural Activities Center,
the formal event included live music, a wine and cheese tasting,
liturgical art and calligraphy show, book and art sale, sit-down dinner,
and the presentation by Father Andrew Apostoli, C.F.R. on the life and
thought of Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen. Books by Father Andrew and Archbishop
Sheen were available for purchase during the evening, which concluded with a
book signing by Father Andrew.
The diverse group of clergy, religious, and
laity enthusiastically responded to Father Andrew’s stirring explanation
of Archbishop Sheen’s impact on American popular culture, his use of the
media as a tool for evangelization, his widespread appeal to ecumenical
audiences and his prophetic voice in the Church. This successful evangelistic
event resulted in renewed interest in Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen’s presentations
and writings as well as deeper prayer for his canonization.

admired at Holy Angels Academy ~ |

What Holy Angels Academy in Louisville, Kentucky, lacks
in size, it more than compensates for in academic excellence, school spirit, and
above all, fidelity to the Catholic Faith! Two individuals, one past and one present,
can be singled out as animators in building and maintaining this school spirit. The
first was the beloved foundress of the school, Sister Mary Elise Groves, O.P. In her
Dominican tradition she not only believed the truth firmly but also taught the truth
enthusiastically to so many. Not only did Sister Mary Elise teach the hearts and minds
of the young from kindergarten through high school, but she influenced many adults as
well, especially through her “study clubs,” using her keen insight and her deep
conviction of right and wrong about the issues of the day.
The second person responsible for the tremendous school
spirit at Holy Angels Academy is its present headmaster, Mr. Joseph Norton.
His own deep personal convictions about Catholicism, his inspiring love of
God, and his desire to educate many young people in the true spirit and
teachings of our Faith have motivated Mr. Norton to expand the wonderful
academy. He has been praying to Archbishop Sheen for the necessary help,
both spiritual and financial, to build a new school that will hold more
students and will allow the wonderful spirit of Holy Angels Academy to
spread even further.
Mr. Norton invited Fr. Andrew Apostoli, a board member of the
Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen Foundation, to come to Louisville on March
19th, 2004 on the beautiful Solemnity of St. Joseph. Despite an unexpected
snowfall in New York that extended the traveling time to Louisville to 12
hours, Fr. Andrew finally arrived in time to be the main speaker at the
Sister Elise Benefit Dinner held to raise funds to assist in everyday
expenses needed to educate the children. Mr. Norton asked Fr. Andrew
to speak on a matter that was close to the heart of Archbishop Fulton
J. Sheen who was committed both to Catholic education and to the truth.
The topic chosen was based on Archbishop Sheen’s statement that “in
the last analysis, the purpose of all education is for the knowledge
and love of truth.” It was a delightful evening, with a wonderful
meal and a timely talk. Fr. Andrew stressed Archbishop Sheen’s
thoughts on the necessity of maintaining the truth quoting the
Archbishop frequently, as when he said, “The truth is the truth even
if nobody believes it, and error is error even if everybody believes
it,” as well as, “We don’t need a voice that’s right when everybody
else is right, but we need a voice that’s right when everybody else
is wrong!” In our age of “political correctness” and “survey
theology,” when popularity and acceptability of an idea is placed above its
truthfulness, we need to hear the voice of Archbishop Fulton J.
Sheen once again.
Mr. Joseph Norton did mention to Fr. Andrew that he had prayed
for thirty days to Archbishop Sheen for the building of the new
school, and then followed that with a novena to St. Joseph the Worker.
He is convinced that a generous donation he received shortly after
for the building of the new school came through the intercession
of Our Lady, St. Joseph, and Archbishop Sheen.
Please pray for Holy Angels Academy that it may successfully
reach its goal of a new school. Mr. Joseph Norton, the Headmaster,
along with all his faculty and students, will be very grateful to
know you are supporting them in this way!
