HUMAN INTEREST STORIES FROM THE LIFE OF THE ARCHBISHOP

Was Arbishop Fulton J. Sheen A Gourmet Cook?

Archbishop Fulton Sheen is noted for many things. He was recognized as possessing many outstanding qualities and talents. But one thing people might never have thought he would be noted for or be talented in was the field of cooking! But, lo and behold, we have come across a recipe from our Archbishop “cook.”

When St. Francis de Sales parish in Geneva, New York, was composing a cookbook of recipes gathered from its parishioners, the late Archbishop, then Bishop of Rochester (NY), submitted a recipe of his own. It was included in the parish book of recipes. A kind lady from the parish sent our office a copy of the Archbishop’s recipe which is entitled, “Applesauce Meat Loaf. ” This recipe now appears in a cookbook entitled, “Building the Family Cookbook ” by Suzanne Fowler. For information about the cookbook, write or call The Light Weigh, P.O. Box 7554, Leawood, Kansas 66207 (1-877-589-3444). Suzanne Fowler told Fr. Andrew Apostoli, C.F.R., a Vice-Postulator for the Cause, that people who had tried the recipe said it was very good! Should we give Archbishop Sheen “five stars ” as a gourmet cook?

You will find the recipe below. If you try it, please let us know how it turns out by emailing us at info@ArchbishopSheenCause.org. (If you can, let us know how long you baked the meatloaf!) Bon appetite!!!
